STM32F103 — the proven classic

The STM32F103C8T6 (Cortex-M3, 72 MHz, 64 KB flash, LQFP48) is arguably the most widely used 32-bit MCU in the world. It is cheap, well documented and supported by a massive ecosystem (including the "Blue Pill" board). Choose it when your application is general-purpose control and you want maximum availability at minimum cost. Avoid it if you need floating-point math, DSP instructions or modern low-power features.

STM32F405 — performance with an FPU

The STM32F405RGT6 (Cortex-M4F, 168 MHz, 1 MB flash, 192 KB SRAM, LQFP64) adds a hardware floating-point unit and DSP instructions. It is the sweet spot for signal processing, sensor fusion, audio and demanding industrial control where plain integer math is not enough. If you need a high-performance MCU but do not require the F407's extra I/O, the F405 is often the more compact, cost-effective choice.

STM32F407 — the motor-control and connectivity workhorse

The STM32F407VGT6 (LQFP100) and its larger variants (LQFP144/176) add more GPIO, Ethernet MAC and advanced timers. This is the go-to series for motor drives, inverters, robotics and networking products. Choose the F407 over the F405 when you need more pins, more peripherals or an on-chip Ethernet interface.

STM32G0 — the modern cost-optimized choice

The STM32G0 series (e.g. STM32G070CBT6, Cortex-M0+, 64 MHz) is ST's newer value line. It offers better low-power behavior and a more modern peripheral set than the ageing F103, at a similar price. For new, cost-sensitive designs, the G0 is usually the smarter long-term choice than the F103.
